Koi Wakizashi

It has been said that the Koi fish possesses bravery and tenacity that is not unlike the samurai. And for that reason, we offer up this Koi Wakizashi as a blade that pays homage to both the brave fish and the legendary warrior from the land of Japan. The wakizashi is a Japanese short sword, often wielded by the samurai when the katana was too unwieldy or large to be of use. This wakizashi has a hand forged blade that is crafted using T10 high carbon steel. It is made using monosteel construction, which means that the blade was not folded during the forging prowess, although the steel has been differentially hardened using the traditional clay method. The swords impressive level of construction ensures that as decorative as it looks, this blade is also made for cutting. The wakizashi guard, also known as a tsuba, is crafted from blackened iron and features the blades namesake, in the form of a finely rendered Koi fish that features true front and back detailing. Black same (or ray skin) wraps the base of the hilt, while the tsuka-ito, or handle wrapping, forms the grip of the sword and is made from premium white Japanese cotton. The rest of the swords fittings are all wonderfully antiqued, which add to the aesthetic appeal of the sword. Included with the wakizashi is a saya, or sheath, which features a deep black lacquer, as well as a black and white striped cotton sageo (which is the cord that ties around the sheath). The sword also includes a protective cloth bag and a traditional maintenance kit, both of which are wonderful for moving the sword, securing the sword, and taking care of the sword. A wakizashi is typically considered to be a part of the daisho (which means big little) and consists of a katana and a wakizashi.
